Playing Around with Treat Dispensing Toys

Odin likes to eat his food fast, like really fast!! In the past month that we have had Odin we have purchased four different food dispensing toys to keep his mind busy and slow down his eating.

Here is a list of food dispensing toys that we have tried out and what we think about them.  We decided to leave out the typical Kong from our list because we use those for treats and goodies and not to feed Odin.

#1 - Our favorite right now is the bob-a-lot made by StarMark.  It may take a few minutes to fill this toy up with food, but it has proven to be durable and entertaining for Odin. We love how this toy has an adjustable difficulty option for those smart pups; the adjustable tab makes the hole bigger or smaller.  We leave Odin's setting at the easiest because his kibbles are larger and he has a hard time getting them out otherwise.  I like the size of it, this toy doesn't get stuck in awkward places like Odin's smaller toys do. My only complaint about this toy is the small hole where the food goes in, I wish it was a bit bigger. If your dog is a chewer like mine, it's best to put this toy away after feeding.  Because this is made of plastic my guy has chewed the top a little bit after getting his food out.

The food goes in this little hole here:

#2 - Our first purchase and longest lasting is the Twist 'n Treat made by Busy Buddy.  This toy is easily to fill and the difficulty is adjustable as well.  Adjusting the difficulty is really easy, just tighten the screw of the toy.  For this toy we set it on the most difficult level, which is fairly easy for Odin.  This toy is made out of a hard rubber and Odin can chew on it and it doesn't show wear. I recommend this toy for it's durability and ease of filling with goodies.  We also like this toy because it is QUIET!  All of his other food dispensing toys are pretty loud.  I definitely recommend this toy if you are an apartment or condo dweller.

#3 - Our third favorite out of the bunch is the Magic Mushroom made by Busy Buddy.  This toy is super easy to fill, has different levels of adjustable difficulty, and is entertaining for Odin.  We really love this toy, but sometimes between Odin's drool, pawing, and chewing, the part where the humans fill up the food comes unscrewed and he manages to get all of his food out without actually working for it.  This toy is pretty durable and is a load of fun for Odin.  This is one of those toys that we do put away after he's emptied it because it is made of plastic and not for chewing on. If this toy didn't come apart so easily, this would be at the top of our list of favorites.

#4 - Lastly is the Kibble Nibble made by Busy Buddy.  This toy is by far the easiest to fill with food.  It does have adjustable difficulty, but once you've adjusted it you can never go back.  With this toy, to adjust the easiness of the toy you have to cut the tabs off of the toy, making it permanent.  This toy is pretty easy for Odin to get his food out of, mainly because every time he plays with it he untwists the toy apart and is able to get all of his food at once!

Welcome!

Welcome to our blog!  This blog will be about our adventures and experiences in the pitty world.  We'll be showing you our successes and failures with toys and everything dog related.

A little about us, I am Monica and I am Odin's mama.  My husband and I adopted Odin in December of 2013 and we are having a blast spoiling him!  Odin came to us from Ventura County Animal Shelter (a high kill shelter) in Southern California where he was pulled out from and saved by All for Love Animal Rescue.  From All for Love Animal Rescue he was transported to Portland, OR to Family Dogs New Life.  In total, Odin spent nearly a year with out an official home.  He is our big sweet pea now and we are so happy that he found us!
